Introduction

The New Huadu Business School is a public institution of higher learning funded by the Fujian New Huadu Charity Foundation. It has been listed as one of the pilot units for comprehensive reforms in the State’s official plan to implement the “National Mid- and Long-term Education Reform and Development Outline.” Pursuing a vision to "become a world-class business school with Chinese implications”, The New Huadu Business School is committed to training young Chinese for innovative abilities and entrepreneurial spirits, and to injecting fundamental momentum into the Chinese economy.

Adhering to international norms, the School has adopted a modern governance system where the dean, supervised by the Board of Directors, assumes full responsibility. A sound organizational structure is already in place. Professor Edmund S. Phelps, 2006 Nobel Prize in Economics and Director of the Center on Capitalism and Society of Columbia University, joined The New Huadu Business School as the Dean upon its inception. Professor Phelps is now in charge of the School’s strategic management, teaching and research practices, and international cooperation. Meanwhile, The New Huadu Business School has also developed an internationalized faculty team of high competence and great diversity, which incorporates prestigious professors and business leaders from first-class universities and enterprises from home and abroad.

The New Huadu Business School now boasts a number of research subsidiaries such as the New Huadu Economy and Management Institute, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management Cases Study Center, and the China Energy Economics and Low-carbon Development Institute. By bringing together the world's top experts and scholars with global perspectives, these subsidiaries are focusing their research efforts on major economic and managerial issues to contribute their wisdom for sustainable development of Chinese enterprises as well as the entire Chinese economy.

To date, The New Huadu Business School has established the multi-level academic system required for a modern business school, providing programs in undergraduate education, MBA in entrepreneurship, and executive development.

Drawing on experiences from first-class business schools abroad, the Undergraduate Programs at the School are designed to address an increasingly internationalized financial sector in China as well as its demand for talents with international perspectives. In an effort to bridge the knowledge gap between finance and accounting, which are taught as segregated majors at most colleges in China, these programs aim to make students dexterous in both accounting and financial operations such as corporate financing, investment, share listing, and merger and acquisition, rich with both practical abilities and innovative spirits for managerial roles in the international arena of business.

The MBA in Entrepreneurship Program at The New Huadu Business School is the first Master’s Degree program specialized in entrepreneurship and innovation approved by the Ministry of Education since MBA education emerged in the country 20 years ago. It is mandated to train entrepreneurs with strong sense of social responsibility, focusing on the development of practical competency for starting and operating business organizations. Through experiential learning, the program is expected to inspire innovative wisdom and to unleash entrepreneurial passions.

China Youth Entrepreneur Education Program was launched to cultivate business leaders for the future of Chinese economy through integrated resources from the government, the businesses, and the entire society. By encouraging creative ideas, developing practical skills, and offering operational guidance, the Program helps young business people fulfill their entrepreneurial ambitions, incubate innovation projects, and add to the vitality of the Chinese economy.

The New Huadu Business School now has managerial teams operating in Fuzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai, respectively, where professionals with expertise in different areas are more efficiently promoting the development of this School. With its headquarters in Fuzhou, the School now brings national impacts through its strategic presence in Beijing and Shanghai.
